For the quarter, Akamai reported GAAP net income of $40.5 million, or 22 cents a share, on sales of $212.5 million. That compares with GAAP earnings of $35.9 million, or 20 cents per share, on sales of $183.2 million.
Revenue grew 16 percent year-over-year and beat Wall Street’s consensus estimates, which called for sales of $205.5 million, according to Thomson. Normalized net income was $82.2 million, or 44 cents a share, compared with analysts’ average estimates of 40 cents a share.
For the full year 2008, Akamai reported record earnings of $145.1 million, or 79 cents a share, on sales of $791 million. That compares with net income of 101 million, or 56 cents a share, on sales of $636.4 million.
