Internap Cuts 45, Including CDN GM

internap_logoWith a restructuring underway, Internap Network Services Corp. (Nasdaq: INAP) has let go the general manager of its content delivery network (CDN) unit and could be retooling its CDN strategy to focus more on channel sales and outsourced services.

Internap announced a restructuring program this morning that will reduce headcount by 45 employees, or 10 percent of its staff. According to a company statement, the staff reductions primarily focused on back-office staff functions, but also included the elimination of certain senior management positions.

Internap CTO Tim Sullivan confirmed that one of the execs affected by the restructuring is Dave Frigeri, former vice president and general manager of Internap’s CDN group.

The news that Frigeri was let go is notable because he was one of the last — if not the last — remaining member of Internap management that had overseen Internap’s disastrous purchase of the VitalStream CDN and its integration with Internap’s IP network.
