#EdgeCast Named as Top #CDN ‘Contender’ by Independent Research Firm
A year after ranking in the top five CDN industry players, EdgeCast Networks, the superior, cost-effective rich media content delivery network (CDN), today announced that Yankee Group, a Boston-based independent research firm, placed EdgeCast in the #3 position in its “Anywhere Scorecard: Content Delivery Networks, 2009” report. This position is significant as it places EdgeCast just below the two incumbents and above seven other vendors, including carriers.
“We can toot our own horn, but the validation that comes when a leader such as Yankee Group – who spent months vigorously analyzing everything a customer should consider – is an exciting boost for us,” said James Segil, president of EdgeCast Networks.
The report ranked the ten major CDN players on critical metrics within Vision and Ability to Transform categories, including capacity, openness, usability, innovation, management, brand reputation, and pricing. Below the “Front-runners” – incumbents Akamai and Limelight – EdgeCast was ranked as the top “Contender.”
“Last year, we included EdgeCast as a representative example of a large group of small premium CDNs struggling for differentiation,” said David Vorhaus, senior analyst at Yankee Group. “In the intervening year, EdgeCast has succeeded in standing out from that pack while maintaining a strong performance reputation and product portfolio.”
An excerpt from the report is available on the EdgeCast web site and the full report is available from Yankee Group.
Edgecast Owners Don’t Care about their Clients. I have looked into the Edgecast’s owners history, James Segil, Phil Goldsmith, and Alex Kazerani. The other owners on the list on their webpage don’t have anything. Well, the main owners always sell their companies after 3 or more years in business. They make their millions and leave. They are planning to do the same with Edgecast. If you look at the history of the companies they’ve sold, there is a major history of unhappy customers and a terrible service. I bet they are planning on their new company right now and ready to dump Edgecast.
