Adobe’s FMS 4.0 Will Support HTTP, Sources Say

In a surprising development, Contentinople has learned that Adobe Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: ADBE) will be adding support for HTTP in the next release of its streaming server, indicating that it may finally be shifting away from its own proprietary streaming protocol.

Sources tell Contentinople that beginning early next year, Adobe’s Flash Media Server (FMS) version 4.0 will support HTTP streaming for the first time. By doing so, the company will offer a more efficient streaming architecture than its proprietary Real-Time Messaging Protocol (RTMP), which its streaming servers currently use.
